Raphael Vanoli - Day by Day with Venus

Raphael Vanoli - Venus by day
teaser for the upcoming release on Snow in Water Records.

First collaboration - pretty minimal and clear - with my father and a couple of befriended artists that will add their beautiful selves and give depth to this labour of love the coming days.

My father’s biggest passion is to build his own telescopes since approx 55 years. He told me about his DIY films of 'Venus by day’ since a decade. During scarse visits at my parental house we often ended our evenings stargazing and bottom-line we always talked about Venus.

Venus does not always look 'full’ like Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptun and Pluto do, Venus has a crescent and decrescent. If you don’t know, you might think you are looking at our moon. Sometimes venues looks like a croissant, sometimes like a half-full moon, sometimes full. That’s because the orbit of Venus lies between the earth and the sun. The love planet is fascinating, full of surprises and particularly with the changing seasonal lights these days and our occasional earthly clouds, of stunning beauty.

Initially I intended to produce music for my father’s astronomy workshops - for fun - even more happy it turns out this will become a proper audiovisual release.

Stay tuned.

Raphaël Vanoli - Bio

Amsterdam based guitarist, bassist, composer and improviser Raphael Vanoli has developed a musical voice of his own and is a versatile guitarist using multiple electronic setups. By constantly experimenting with all possibilities of the guitar he found and developed a technique that uses breath on the strings. Both in his solo music as well as in his many collaborations in the modern music world his quest to blur the limit between electronic and acoustic sounds resolves into a singular language, sometimes with unheard colours. He performed all over Europe, Russia and Brazil.

Next to his solo work his main project is the critically acclaimed experimental post-rock duo KNALPOT with drummer Gerri Jäger and the space-dub band STOLPERNOVA (with Omar Ka, Franz Hautzinger, Hilary Jeffery, Gerri Jäger).
